Land Acknowledgement DRAFT

What is a Land Acknowledgement

A Land Acknowledgement is an intentional and formal statement that recognizes the relationship between Indigenous people and their traditional territories.  It serves as a sign of gratitude and respect and recognizes our shared obligation to respect and honour the land we live and work on.

Steenburg Lake Community Association Land Acknowledgement

Steenburg Lake is located on the traditional and ancestral territories of the Huron-Wendat (Hur-on When-dat), Haudenosaunee (Hoden-oh-show-nee), and Anishinaabe (An-ish-i-na-bay).  This land is rich in Indigenous history and home to many First Nations, Métis and Inuit people. We respect their cultures and celebrate their commitment to this land. As caretakers it is our honour to inhabit the lands of Turtle Island, and our obligation to protect and sustain this land, this water, and the natural resources contained within them.
